Review: The Hunger Games returns to the past

Power,control,rebellion

The Hunger Games universe is set to ignite once again with the release of “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.” The highly anticipated prequel to the series was released in theaters November 17. It has been roughly eight years since the last installment of a Hunger Games movie was released in cinema, so for fans of the series this movie has been a long time coming.

All movies of the series are based off the collection of novels “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. This film is based off her most recent addition to the novel series “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” which was released back in 2020.

The film is a prequel to the previous Hunger Games movies following the origin of Coriolanus Snow, who fans of the original films may remember as the scheming antagonist behind all the conflict. The film digs deep into all the layers of his complex character and how he ascended to power through his cunning abilities and political prowess.

True to the spirit of The Hunger Games series, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” tackled themes of power, control, and rebellion. The film explores the societal dynamics that led to the establishment of the Games and delves deeper into the early seeds of resistance that would eventually bloom into a full-scale rebellion.

If you were always wondering about the origins of the Hunger Games and how Coriolanus Snow became such a tyrannical antagonist, then this film is a must watch for you. Even if you are new to the series, this film can serve as a great introduction to the universe of “The Hunger Games”.
