Review: La Huasteca opens a fresh location

Potential new lunch spot for students

Texas A&M University Kingsville now has a healthier food option nearby.

While we do have a Subway on campus and another within walking distance, La Huasteca provides a healthy alternative option, and customers have the opportunity to support a local business.

If you have a sweet tooth, La Huasteca is the place to be.

With options consisting of water and cream base paletas, homemade ice-cream and sorbet, mangonadas, agua frescas, churro cheesecake, tres leches and many more options.

On their food menu, they have a B.L.T pasta salad, mexican chicken salad and hot dogs along with different variations of salads.

As for snacks La Huasteca offers corn in a cup, chirraron, nachos and fruit cups.

After a stressful day of classes, I decided to treat myself to La Huasteca.

I ordered a Mexican chicken salad sandwich, B.L.T. pasta and a cantaloupe and pineapple agua fresca.

It is safe to say the new location was the only thing that changed, the menu items are as good as before.

The Mexican chicken salad does contains vegetables such as peas, which I am usually not a fan of but La Huasteca can make it work.

The B.L.T. pasta consists of bacon, lettuce, tomato, bow tie pasta tossed in a delicious dressing.

This pasta is tasty and doesn’t break the bank.

The agua frescas are the perfect option to quench your thirst.

La Huasteca offers many options of their refreshing agua frescas, with swapping out flavors throughout the week- there’s a flavor for every one.

The pineapple cantaloupe is my favorite as it is strained well, not overwhelmingly sweet and consists of balanced flavors that compliment each other very well.

Overall, I would rate La Huasteca’s new location a 10/10 from the food to the excellent customer service, they remain one of my favorite spots in Kingsville, Texas. Be sure to check it out at the corner of N. Armstrong and Santa Getrudis streets.
